Composite insulator is totally different from traditional porcelain or glass insulator in terms of structure and material, which can be summarized as follows:
The axial tensile strength of FRP core used in composite insulator is very high, generally over 600MPa, 5-10 times of that of porcelain, which is equivalent to that of high-quality carbon steel. In addition, the proportion of core rod material is only 2.0, much lighter than that of steel; the proportion of umbrella skirt material is also less than 2.0, so composite insulator can easily produce the strength grade with the specified mechanical load of hundreds of kn, and the quality is only 10% - 15% of that of disc suspension insulator. In the construction and emergency repair of UHV lines in mountainous areas, the synthetic insulation has the advantages of light weight, not afraid of falling damage, and is welcomed by the operation and construction personnel.
